Set up email in Thunderbird
Step-by-step guide to using your email in Mozilla Thunderbird, on Windows, Mac or Linux.
Mozilla Thunderbird is a free email app for Windows, Mac and Linux. It’s the one we recommend for computers.
Watch the video (in Portuguese) or follow the step-by-step guide with pictures below.
Before you start
You’ll need:
- Your email address and your password
- Thunderbird installed on your computer
- The server settings
1. Add the account
Click Settings (bottom left corner) and then Account Settings > Account Actions > Add Mail Account.

Fill in your name, email and password, and click Configure manually.

2. Fill in the server settings
Fill in the incoming and outgoing server fields with the settings below. Under Protocol, choose IMAP or POP. If in doubt, choose IMAP. See the difference between POP and IMAP.
- Server
- pvlmail1.raszio.com
| Type | Port | Security |
|---|---|---|
| IMAP (incoming) | 993 | SSL/TLS |
| POP (incoming) | 995 | SSL/TLS |
| SMTP (outgoing) | 587 | STARTTLS |
- Username: your full email address, such as jane@yourcompany.com
- Password: your email password
3. Finish
Click Re-test. Thunderbird checks the settings and shows a green message when everything is right.

Click Done. Your email is set up.
Common problems
If Thunderbird doesn’t accept the settings, check:
- That the password, server addresses and ports are correct
- That the chosen protocol (IMAP or POP) has the right port: 993 for IMAP, 995 for POP
- That the outgoing server (SMTP) is on port 587 with STARTTLS security
- That the Authentication method is set to “Normal password” or “Autodetect”
- That the Username for both servers is your full email address
