Complete list of .br domains (and how to choose one)

Every .br ending available for registration, and some strategies to choose a short, memorable domain when the .com.br is already taken.

It’s common to see companies registering extremely long domains because it’s “the only option they have left”. The scarcity of good domains leads companies to add their city’s abbreviation or words related to their field, just to be able to register their .com.br.

Even though there are signs that adding keywords to the domain can help your Google ranking, I think the practice hurts more than it helps: adding keywords to the domain makes the business look unprofessional and makes it impossible to turn your brand into something memorable that people share.

Fortunately, that’s no longer necessary: in this guide you’ll learn other ways to register a domain with a friendly, unique and memorable name.

What’s the real benefit of a .com.br domain?

Technically, none. .com.br or .com domains get no priority in Google’s rankings and offer no benefit whatsoever for digital marketing.

The only difference is people’s perception that a .com.br site seems more solid and traditional. Since it was the first ending to appear in Brazil, it’s the most widely recognized. And precisely because they’re older, most .com.br domains have already been registered.

It’s worth stressing that new TLDs keep appearing, and one day the public will see them the way .com.br and .com are seen today. So it’s a good idea to look at the new options before registering your domain.

My .com.br domain is already taken. What should I do?

Companies that care about this kind of public perception pay thousands of reais to secure specific domains, but that’s usually not financially viable: it’s almost impossible for an active company to be willing to give up its domain, whatever the price offered.

Given how scarce .com.br addresses have become, Registro.br has made a series of new endings available so that new companies can find a short, friendly domain that fits their field. You’ll very likely find one that’s ideal for your business.

Strategies to choose a good domain

  • Avoid names that run similar consonants and vowels together (empresaalegre.com.br or cafeexpresso.com.br, for example);
  • Don’t use special characters, even if they’re allowed (such as - and ç);
  • Use generic endings such as etc.br, net.br, tec.br or emp.br if you can’t find a suitable one;
  • Don’t register domains with endings associated with piracy, spam or fraud sites;
  • Look for an international TLD that’s simple and friendly (there are more than 1,500);
  • Use a TLD that completes your company’s name, as pagar.me does.

Final thoughts

A simple domain will make it easier to communicate with customers and partners every day when sending emails, promoting your site and creating online ads. There are plenty of options to choose from, so there’s no reason to be stuck with the traditional .com.br. I hope I can help you with this choice, which will probably mark the start of your company on the web.
